Well, the rain stayed away for most of the day and we had a brilliant trip to Butser Ancient Farm. The children took part in four main activities. Firstly, they had to run an archaeological dig and classify what they had found. Secondly, they had to build a wattle fence. This was followed by a tour of the farm, lunch and a story. In the afternoon we made jewellery before learning how to build with clunch, a mixture of chalk, soil, water and straw. The last activity was eating some special oatcakes baked at school while listening to another story before back to school.
The children had a great time and demonstrated their good background knowledge of the Stone Age to Iron Age period and it was clear that the farm staff were impressed. Photos from the day are below.
