Using drama to investigate the importance of Jesus in The Bible

In RE this term we have been discussing the wider significance of the Easter story and the importance of Jesus as a person. As a class we looked at five events from the New Testament: The ascension, the feeding of the five thousand, The healing of blind Bartimaeus, the resurrection of Lazarus and Palm Sunday.

We read the stories and split into groups to create a freeze frame from a picture of the event. The way the freeze frame works is that you can ask any of the characters in the picture to discuss their actions and feelings, so it is a effective way of consolidating learning.

The children were able to use this technique to good effect and to begin to explain the wider significance of Jesus’ actions to the Jewish people at that time.
